11 migrants died in 2 accidents in the same district
Eleven migrant workers were killed in two accidents in Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh on Saturday.
Sagar (Madhya Pradesh) : Eleven migrant workers were killed in two accidents in Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh on Saturday, police said.
“Four women and two men were killed when the truck they were travelling in overturned near Banda town. Sixteen others were injured, who are admitted at Banda community health centre,” Superintendent of Police Amit Sanghi said.
The migrants were travelling from Maharashtra to Uttar Pradesh, police said.
In the second accident, five labourers were killed and 20 others injured when a truck overturned in Dalpatpur. The truck was moving from Sagar to Chhatarpur. The injured were admitted to a local hospital. Police from both Sagar and Chhatarpur districts rescued the injured from the spot.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has written to his counterparts in seven states to provide information on labourers passing through Madhya Pradesh from other states.
In letters to Chief Ministers of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Telangana, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh, Chouhan said there were practical difficulties in arranging for movement of labourers unless the government knew how many would reach the Madhya Pradesh borders and at what time.
Chouhan said his government was making arrangements for free food, vehicles and medicines etc to these migrants. Due to lack of prior information about the movement of labourers, the system gets disturbed and a law and order situation is created due to panic, he pointed out.
