A woman and her year-old daughter were killed after rampaging elephants destroyed their mud house early on Wednesday in Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh district, police said.
A herd of elephants entered Uppada village on Tuesday night and started damaging property. Villagers alleged that Forest officials were informed about it but they did not help them.
On Wednesday morning, the elephants attacked a house of Raju, who was sleeping with his wife and two children.
“When elephants attacked our house, my wife asked me to go outside with the children. I managed to escape with one child but my wife Pano, 30, and one-year-old daughter Golu got buried in the house,” he said.
The Police and Forest officials sent the bodies for post-mortem.
Over 700 people have been killed by rampaging elephants in Jharkhand so far.
